As German drivers continue to use the Autobahn as a way to test their BMW's redline abilities, freedom of gaming is something you'd expect. Yet, the country's history as the bad guys in WWII continues to influence the freedoms of gamers. German gamers know all about "the index" of material that the government views as harmful to young people. Racist content, including the slaughter of Nazis is banned, so Wolfenstein 3D, Mortyr and Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines never made it to the country. Games that depict a high level of violence, like Mortal Kombat 1, II and 3 were banned, along with Manhunt, Dead Rising, Gears of War and Condemned: Criminal Origins.

Germany was heavily censoring long before Australia took control.. Ah, I remember downloading a cracked version of Carmageddon that had robots instead of people. Took some patching to get the people back in.. Although, I think a lot of countries took the censor-mallet to that game, didnt the UK version originally have zombies, instead of people?
