yes, its more like LFS than GTR, but the road surface feels more real than in LFS. it really feels like youre riding on actual ground when you have the force feedback cranked up, like you can reach out and touch every single pebble on the track.

the only problem is that when stationary, or even in menus, sometimes the FF sets off and the wheel starts violently shaking while in a menu. dunno if thats a problem with my drivers or what. using a G25.

the only thing i dont like is that when clutch is set to manual, and you shift, it autoclutches for you, albiet slowly, but thats just a minor issue, and it saves your ass if you screw up while clutching.

theres not many cars, like 5 or something, and only 1 road car, the solstice of all things, but the huge number of tracks totally makes up for it. ive tried lime rock, silverstone, and everyone's favorite laguna seca, and theyre all brilliant (not that i would know what they are actually like in real life, but they seem brilliant). and the tree at the laguna seca corkscrew IS there, so i would recommend using it if you play that track.

also, no AI (as far as i can tell), no online with this version

you can, but if you fuck up and dont press the pedal for whatever reason, it automatically clutches for you, somewhat slowly, maybe like 0.5 of a second or so.

while, in LFS with manual clutch, if you shift without clutching it just leaves you in neutral

I havent tried LFS in 2 years or so, but does it really require clutching, doesnt revmatching suffice, not that its really used in racing but for realisms sake.

as far as i know, you need to clutch if the car uses an H-pattern gearbox, assuming youre using manual clutch. some of the cars use sequential transmissions, and in those, youre forced to use a sequential shifter, shift paddles or keys without using the clutch, but you can still try to revmatch, so in LFS it depends on the car.

iracing has a special on right now. you get a 1 month membership for 5 bucks. i bought mine, gonna try it out online. cant wait. i looked at the structure of it and its pretty tight.

when you race everything is organized into seasons and series. you start with three cars, the solstice, the ledgends, and an SCCA spec racer. youre awarded licences for racing cleanly, every race you get an increase (or decrease) in your safety rating between 0-5. so you dont have to be a brilliant driver to move up the ranks, just a clean driver. the FIRST sanctioning system determines when you spin go off course or make contact.

so bascially you enter a series, you can practice on the track in a large session with other racers. you have to qualify (which you can do as many times as you want) which determines your starting place on the grid and then you can do TTs and races. each race in a series last 1 week. so if youre racing in the solstice rookie series, and the track is laguna seca, you have a week in which you can practice, qualify, tT and race as much as you want in that car on that track. on saturday, the next track of the series is activated and you do it on that.

P.S. new unoffical fastest time (in a practice session where i finished 3rd out of 7) on laguna seca with the solstice rookie is 1:55:293

new deal on. 3 months + the williams F1 + silverstone + Zandvoort for 35 bucks. the williams is worth $12, and the tracks are $15 each, add that to a $30 fee for a month subscription and thats like 50% off. also has a year subscription for $75 which is all that stuff + a 100 dollar year long subscription (so youre spending less than the subscription fee and getting 45 bucks worth of cars and tracks). no too bad.
